All our neighborhood kids seem to have disappeared! Earlier in the summer, B. was always out there on his scooter with a throng of kids. Where did they all go? -- Willa

Reminisce, My God! (Pete Rock, C.L. Smooth) Wow, you outed the Dead End. Hilarious!!!!! I just shared with my children how we used to ride down the hill on our bikes with No Hands and both legs on one side, and could've sworn there was an Olympic Gold waiting for us at the bottom. Too funny and soooo true. Let them Play!!!

Ms. Ive-

Hey thanks for making this connection! I think it's a little sad we have to teach kids how to play these days. We should definitely chat!

I love what you write here! I run a blog called Playborhood.com - all about getting kids playing outside in their neighborhoods.

I'm in the Bay Area, too - Menlo Park. The SF Chron recently wrote an article about what I've done with my yard to make it into a kids' hangout:

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2009/07/05/HO9V18BIIK.DTL

I ran a neighborhood summer camp there in June for two weeks and will run a playday here on September 19 in conjunction with Kaboom.org and the Children and Nature Network.

We should talk!
